This 3-day itinerary takes travelers from Marrakech across the High Atlas Mountains, through the southern valleys, and into the Sahara Desert. The tour includes guided stops at historical kasbahs, a camel ride in the Erg Chebbi dunes, and one night in a desert camp.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Tizi n’Tichka – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley

  • Morning: Pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation. Drive through the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m).
  • Midday: Stop at Ksar Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, for a guided walking tour of the ancient clay architecture. Lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Afternoon: Continue through Ouarzazate and the Skoura palm groves into the Valley of Roses.
  • Evening: Arrive in the Dades Valley. Check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Desert

  • Morning: Breakfast at the hotel. Short drive to the Todra Gorges, characterized by steep, 300-meter-high limestone cliffs. Time provided for a walk along the river.
  • Midday: Drive through the Tafilalet region, passing through Erfoud and Rissani. Stop for lunch along the route.
  • Afternoon: Arrive in Merzouga. Meet the camel caravan for a 1.5-hour ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes to reach the desert camp.
  • Evening: Traditional Moroccan dinner served at the camp. Overnight stay in a private desert tent.

Day 3: Merzouga – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

  • Morning: Optional early wake-up to watch the sunrise over the dunes. Breakfast at the camp. Camel ride or 4×4 transfer back to the main road in Merzouga.
  • Midday: Begin the return journey to Marrakech. Drive through the Draa Valley and the Anti-Atlas Mountains. Stop for lunch in Ouarzazate.
  • Afternoon: Cross the High Atlas Mountains.
  • Evening: Drop-off at your Marrakech accommodation in the early evening.
