Home /5-Day Rose Valley Trekking Tour
Explore the striking contrasts of the High Atlas Mountains on a 5-day trek through the Valley of Roses. This moderate hiking route takes you along the Mgoun River, passing through lush green terraces, ancient earthen kasbahs, and dramatic limestone gorges. It is an excellent option for active travelers looking to experience rural Berber culture and mountain hospitality up close.
Day 1: Marrakech to the Valley of Roses
The Drive: Depart Marrakech in the morning, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass.
Arrival: Arrive in the Dades region and head toward Kelaat M’Gouna, the capital of the Rose Valley. Meet your mountain guide and support team.
Evening: Briefing on the trekking route. Dinner and overnight stay in a local gîte (traditional mountain guesthouse).
Days 2-4: Trekking the Mgoun River and Rose Valleys
Daily Routine: Hike for approximately 5 to 6 hours each day. Your main luggage is transported by local muleteers, so you only need to carry a small daypack.
The Route: Walk through a network of trails connecting remote Berber villages like Boutaghrar. The path frequently crosses the shallow waters of the Mgoun River and winds through terraced gardens of almond, walnut, and Damask rose bushes (which typically bloom in April and May).
Accommodations & Meals: Sleep in basic but comfortable local gîtes within the villages. All breakfasts, lunches, and dinners during the trekking days are prepared by your trail cook or provided by the local guesthouse hosts.
Day 5: Final Hike and Return to Marrakech
Morning: Complete a short final walk to the designated transport pickup location in the valley.
The Return Drive: Meet your driver and begin the journey back along the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs.” Stop in Ouarzazate for a scheduled lunch break.
Evening: Cross the mountains and arrive back in Marrakech by late afternoon. Direct drop-off at your hotel or riad.
